ABSTRACT

Modern military infrastructures require high capability standards to support critical missions. In the era of interconnected battlefields, military microgrids host strategic laboratories and complex facilities in the task of supporting critical missions. As such, military infrastructures require secure and reliable energy sourcing, which should be resilient to coordinated physical or cyber-attacks. In this context, flexible energy sources, self-healing coordination paradigms, and automatic decision-making tools must be integrated into the current infrastructure to enhance critical power systems and reduce the loss of load probability. This special session investigates the most promising enabling technologies aimed at enhancing the resilience of military power infrastructures, even under severe and unexpected conditions.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZER

Fabrizio De Caro is a member of the Power System Research Group at the Engineering Department of the University of Sannio. In April 2020, he received his Ph.D. in “Information Technologies for Engineering” from the University of Sannio. His main scientific skills and interests include modeling and characterizing renewable energy source uncertainty, developing wind power forecasting methodologies, applying data-driven methodologies in decision-making systems in power systems, analyzing the resilience and reliability of power systems, and developing alert systems based on stochastic processes. He served as secretary for the IEEE Task Force on “Methods for Analysis and Quantification of Power System Resilience”. He is an associate editor for “Technology and Economics of Smart Grids” (Springer), “E-Prime Advances in Electrical Engineering Electronics and Energy” (Elsevier), and “IET Renewable Power Generation” (Wiley).
